Beginners’ course
You have no experience of racket sports. We’ll start with the basics and build up step by step to the key strokes in padel. You’ll learn the forehand, backhand, volley, smash and lob, amongst other things. You’ll also receive a detailed explanation of the rules of the game, so you’ll be well prepared when you step onto the court.
Beginners+
You’ve already had a first taste of padel or another racket sport. You’re already familiar with the basic strokes (such as the forehand, backhand and smash), you know (almost) all the general rules of the game and you understand how the scoring works. You can keep the ball in play at least three times, although you still lack accuracy and often aren’t sure where to position yourself on the court. In this course, we’ll build on the basics and you’ll learn new strokes and techniques to further develop your game.
Level 9
You have some experience of racket sports and know the basics: forehand, backhand, volley, smash and lob. You can return the ball at least six times, although your accuracy still needs work. You find using the walls difficult and therefore (almost) never use them in matches. You are familiar with the general rules of the game and scoring, but aren’t sure whether you’re always in the right position. In this course, we’ll teach you the correct positions and refine all your basic strokes. Soon you’ll be able to play with greater precision and confidence.
Level 8
You can play a padel match entirely independently, with rallies of more than 10 strokes. You can play a rally without the ball accidentally going too high over the net. If you’re positioned at the net and are lobbed, you’re often in time to return the ball and resume the rally. During matches, you make few double faults on your serve and occasionally use the walls. You can also volley an easily reachable ball, and you are familiar with the rules of the game and correct positioning. In this course, we focus on refining the basic strokes, using the walls with confidence, and you will be introduced to the bandeja.
Level 7
You have a good command of the basic strokes, and both volley rallies and rallies from the back of the court pose no problem. When you’re at the net and a lob is played to you, you’re always in time to return the ball and resume the rally. During matches, you already use the walls regularly where necessary and also make regular use of the double wall. In this course, we’ll continue to refine your basic strokes, improve your bandeja and begin to develop your tactical play.
Level 6
You play padel regularly and have a good command of the basic strokes. However, you realise that there is still plenty of room for improvement, particularly in terms of tactics. During matches, you already make frequent use of the (double) wall where necessary. In this course, we’ll refine your basic strokes, delve deeper into the bandeja and introduce you to the bajada and vÃbora. We’ll also focus extensively on tactics.
Level 5/4
You spend a lot of time on the padel court, have mastered all the basic shots and play long rallies during matches. You (almost) always use the (double) walls when necessary and are familiar with the Spanish terms for shots, such as bandeja, bajada, vÃbora and chiquita. This course focuses on refining these advanced shots and further improving your tactical play.
Is the course you want to take already full? What a shame! Add your name to the waiting list using the form below. Places do become available from time to time!
Chip & Charge is Amsterdam’s student tennis and padel club! It’s the perfect place for some brilliant drop shots, both on and off the court 😉. As well as tennis, Chip & Charge offers plenty of fun (get-togethers, parties, tournaments and events).
For more info, check out the Chip & Charge website.
- To give as many people as possible the chance to secure a place on a padel course, you may only book one padel course per person per period. You are, however, welcome to sign up for both a padel course and a tennis course.
- In a padel course, you’ll train with a maximum of 4 participants on 1 outdoor court.
- A lesson lasts 60 minutes, 50 of which are spent on instruction.
- Coaches may remove you from the group if it becomes apparent that your level is insufficient.
- If you are more than 15 minutes late, the coach may refuse you entry.
- You may try to make up a missed lesson during the same course period in which you missed it. This is only possible at your own level, with any USC coach. You can only make up a lesson if there are three people or fewer present at that time.
- Lessons are non-transferable. If you are absent, other course participants will be given the opportunity to catch up on the lesson. You may therefore not send a substitute (including a friend).
- If the coach is absent, we will try to arrange a replacement. If this is not possible, the lesson will be rescheduled for a later date.
- The padel courts are not covered; in the event of bad weather, a lesson may be cancelled.
- In the event of bad weather, ‘no news is good news’ applies. This means the trainer is, in any case, hopeful that the session will go ahead.
- The coach will decide whether a lesson can go ahead.
- Once a lesson has started, it will not be rescheduled, unless the coach decides otherwise.
- If lessons are cancelled due to weather conditions, the first lesson will be rescheduled, the second will not, the third will, and the fourth will not. The number of rescheduled lessons is capped at two.
- The first make-up session is usually in the week following the course. The make-up session may differ from the regular lesson day and/or time. This may occur if the courts are busy or if several make-up sessions need to be scheduled.
- If USC is unable to schedule or make up a make-up session, the following compensation scheme applies:
- Course participants with a free-play membership: a one-off discount on the regular monthly fee for the current membership.
- Course participants without an open-play membership: a credit to their USC account equivalent to the number of lessons not held.
