No-show fee What are we going to do with it?
Perhaps you always cancel everything properly, or perhaps all your savings are spent on no-show fees. Either way, here’s what we’re going to do about it.
Why the no-show fee?
Not everyone who makes a booking actually turns up. That’s a shame, especially as another USC student would have liked to have used that reserved place. With this no-show fee, we hope to encourage people to cancel in time.
How does the no-show fee work?
Booked, but can’t make it after all? Make way for someone else!
- Cancel up to one hour before the start of your booking.
- If you don’t cancel (in time), you risk a no-show fee of €3.
- Of course, it can happen occasionally that you forget to cancel. That’s why we’ll give you a friendly reminder the first time.
- If you fail to show up again within 3 months despite having made a booking, the no-show fee will apply.
- If you don’t pay the no-show fee, that’s fine, but you won’t be able to book for two weeks – and so you won’t be able to train.
What will we do with the no-show fee?
We’d like to invest the no-show fee in a worthwhile sporting cause.
Universum outdoor lighting
Over the coming years, the beach volleyball courts will be moved to the side of the building, next to the bouldering wall and the calisthenics park. A lively little sports park will be created there, where people can enjoy plenty of sport both during the day and in the evening right up until closing time. And it is precisely on those evenings that we want to ensure there is sufficient lighting – not only to make sporting activities possible, but also to improve public safety. That’s why we’re going to invest your no-show fees in outdoor lighting around this new sports park at Universum. This way, we’ll ensure that you and other sports enthusiasts can continue to exercise in a pleasant and safe environment – from sunrise until well after sunset!
What the no-show fees have been used for previously
A calisthenics park has recently been installed right outside the Universum sports centre. We were able to make this happen thanks to the no-show fees!
Other funding for the calisthenics park
Relying solely on income from the no-show fee would have meant it would have taken a very long time before we could have these outdoor sports facilities. That’s why we’re very grateful for the contributions from the Amsterdam University Fund and Matrix Innovation Centre. Donations from members during the COVID-19 pandemic were also used to help fund this calisthenics park.
